Our Board of Directors includes 10 members with varied backgrounds in different disciplines, which include Banking, Management, IT, Law, Accounting, Investment and hands on experience in various industries.

  • William C. Irwin - NED Board Chairman

    Bill Irwin joined our Board in October 2004 and was later appointed as Chairman of the Board in October 2009.  Prior to joining I&M Bank Rwanda he was employed for more than thirty years by SCB serving in Africa, the US and Asia.  Latterly he was Area General Manager with responsibility for their various businesses in South, Central, and East Africa.

  • Robin Bairstow - MD

    Robin was appointed as a Managing Director in September 2015. He comes with a reputation for innovation, is an experienced Corporate Banker and has a highly successful track record with over 23 years in the financial services sector with both domestic and international banking organizations. Robin is a graduate of the South African Merchant Naval Academy and the University of Leicester.

  • Soundararajan Madabhushi - NED

    Mr. Soundararajan joined the Board of Directors in July 2012. He has been a career banker for 36 years with the State Bank of India, Standard Chartered Bank, Commercial Bank of Africa and CFC Group. He was the Managing Director of CFC Financial Services Ltd and Managing Director of CFC Bank. He is currently CEO of Delta Corp East Africa Ltd, a real estate development company substantially owned by the reputed Reliance Industries Limited from India.

  • Faustin Byishimo - ED

    Mr. Byishimo was appointed to the board as an Executive Director in December, 2015. He has served the bank for over 13 years under different managerial positions. He holds a BBA in Accounting  and has in-depth operational and strategic management experience that was acquired through various top level assignments within the Bank which include his most recent tenures as the Head of Corporate Banking. He continues to serve the bank as the Divisional Head of Business Development overseeing the Corporate, Business, Retail Banking as well as Product Development functions of the bank.

  • Richard Mugisha - NED

    Richard Mugisha joined the I&M Bank Rwanda board of Directors on February, 2010. He holds a Master of Law (LLM), from the New York University, School of Law and is the managing partner of Trust Law Chambers which specializes in commercial Litigation and convenyancy. Richard brings to the board depth and expertise from managing transactions in the Energy, Banking and Finance sectors in Rwanda; as a current Member of Governing Council Kigali Bar Association and Disciplinary Committee of Chartered Public Accountants. He also participated as a member on the Rwanda Financial Sector deepening planning committee and the National Committee for Regional integration.

  • Dr Estelle Jonkergouw - NED

    Dr Jonkergouw was appointed to the Board of Directors in March 2018. She holds a PhD in Econometrics and has previously held risk management functions within the banking and insurance industry making her an expert in enterprise risk management.  She has also developed executive risk management trainings and teaches in this field at the Dutch Actuarial Institute and at University of Amsterdam. She currently  works as interim professional providing  advice and support to strengthen the Financial Risk Management Department. Estelle previously worked with financial institutions: Rabobank as the Senior VP - Head Risk Model Validation and Methodology, Group Risk Management where she validated all risk models for Basel II purposes; she also worked with ACHMEA where she set up a Financial Risk Management function, implemented a Risk Management Framework for solvency II and at Lloyds Bank as the Head of Risk Management and Compliance.  

  • Arun S. Mathur - NED

    Mr. Arun Mathur joined the bank's Board of Directors in July 2012. He chairs the Board Administration, Procurement & Remuneration Committee and is also a member of various Board committees of the Bank. Mr. Mathur holds a B.Tech (Hons) degree and started his banking career in 1976 with the State Bank of India. He joined the Grindlays Bank, India in 1982, and worked in their office in Nairobi, Kenya from 1990 to 1994. He then worked for several banks in Eastern Africa until he joined I&M Bank Ltd in 2000 and was promoted as CEO in 2002. Mr. Mathur is also a director of I&M Bank Ltd in Kenya, Bank One Ltd in Mauritius, I&M Bank (T) Ltd in Tanzania as well as Kenswitch in Kenya.

  • Andreas Grenacher - NED

    Mr Andreas Grenacher was appointed to the board in February 2017. He is currently working as the Managing Director for the regional Corporate Finance boutique, DGP Advisory. Before joining DGP Advisory, Mr Grenacher held senior positions in the corporate finance and asset management divisions of the German development corporation (DEG), at Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse and worked in Nairobi, London, Frankfurt and Zurich. He has more than 17 years of experience in the finance sector. Academic/Professional qualifications: Master of Finance at the Westfaelische-Wilhelms University Muenster, Germany.

  • Crystal Rugege - NED

    Crystal joined the Board of Directors in November 2017. She has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Grambling State University and master's degree in information systems and management from Carnegie Mellon University. She is currently working with Carnegie Mellon University Africa (CMU-Africa) as the Director of Strategy and Operations. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon University, she worked at IBM's Silicon Valley Lab as a software engineer and also as a technology consultant providing IBM’s customers with business intelligence solutions. She joins the Board with experience in the technology and education fields.

  • Paul Simon Morris - NED

    Simon joined the Bank’s Board of Directors in September 2018. He is a UK national, an experienced international banker who has served in various senior positions in Europe, Asia and Africa with Standard Chartered Bank Group and 2 large local banks in Mongolia and Vietnam. He has experience as a Chief executive Officer for 14 years in 6 countries in Asia, Simon also worked in Africa as the Regional head of Consumer Banking Africa for Standard Chartered Bank
